Replace your cabinet or defend their stewardship, Nataro tells Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu

FORMER Kebbi State governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Mallam Salihu Isa Nataro, has enjoined President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider reconstituting his current cabinet if they cannot convince Nigerians of their stewardship.

He stated that since governance in a democracy is a collective responsibility, ministers and appointees of the President should be at the grassroots explaining the measures taken by the administration in the last four years.

Nataro, who was reacting to media criticism of President Tinubu decision to attend his re-election rallies in only 12 states, argued that if the appointees of the President had kept in touch with the people such discussion would not arise at all.

The APC chieftain contended that if the President was prepared to condone his ministers, the job of defending the mandate falls on him, remarking that he has been a strong ally of President canvassing support for a review of his economic policies to engage local entrepreneurs to invest heavily in Nigeria.

Nataro, who is also a Public Sector reform advocate, said that although the President listens in some cases especially on the economy score, his insistence on retaining his current cabinet and aides is not helping matters.

“It is obvious now that many of the cabinet members cannot in any way defend the President’s policies in the ongoing campaign for his second term. Many Nigerians acknowledge that some of the ministers and heads of departments and agencies are incapable of convincing the people on why the President deserves a second term.

“The greed of the appointees, including the state governors, are making Nigerians to develop hatred for the administration. It is very difficult for most of the appointees to figure out or locate the concerns of Tinubu’s supporters because they are power-drunk. This is unknown to President Bola Tinubu, but it is causing a lot of pressure from the masses.”

Nataro criticized the President’s appointees and state governors for their habit of spending huge government revenue on papers without the money going directly for designated projects or intended purposes, thereby making it difficult to sell or market the President.

He regretted that most of those surrounding the President have not been engaging with Nigerians even through the media, noting that some think that by denying access to President’s allies their greed and selfishness should not be known.

While noting that he would continue to throw his weight behind President Tinubu, Nataro said that those who orchaestrated the recovery of his landed property in Abuja have continued to keep away from their country homes to canvass votes for Tinubu.

“For some of us to know President Tinubu’s determination to improve this country, we will continue to show support. Those running away from the masses are the problem, they are giving the party and President Tinubu’s administration bad name,” he added.
