Ogun shuts down steel firm over worker’s death

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun

The Ogun State Government has shut down Kan Steel Holdings Nigeria Limited in Sagamu following the death of a worker, Abdulfatai Nuru, in an operational accident.

The closure followed a stop-work order issued after safety officers inspected the facility and identified potential breaches of workplace safety regulations.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Kafayat Lawal, said yesterday that the company would remain closed until the government concluded its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the worker’s death.

Lawal said preliminary findings had indicated possible lapses in workplace safety but stressed that a comprehensive investigation was ongoing to establish the circumstances that led to the incident.
