Nyameh warns Taraba youths against selling integrity for political stipends

Prof. Jerome Nyameh

The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Taraba State, Professor Jerome Nyameh, has urged youths in the state not to make politics their primary source of livelihood or career, but to prioritise education, skills acquisition and financial independence.

Nyameh gave the advice while interacting with journalists in Jalingo on Friday, stressing that politics should be viewed as an opportunity to serve the people and contribute to the development of constituencies, the state and the country.

The Accord Party candidate encouraged young people to learn trades, acquire valuable skills, pursue further education and establish their own businesses, noting that financial independence would enable them to stand up for their convictions and resist undue political influence.

He cautioned youths against allowing politicians to use them to insult opponents, spread misinformation, attack others or defend wrongdoing in a bid to demonstrate loyalty.

“Never allow anyone to use you to insult opponents, spread lies, attack others, or defend falsehood just to prove your loyalty to a politician. Set boundaries. Protect your integrity. Guard your conscience,” he said.

According to Nyameh, genuine political loyalty does not require young people to surrender their personal convictions or compromise their moral values to please political leaders.

He maintained that youths could mobilise supporters and campaign for their preferred candidates without resorting to personal attacks, misinformation or the defence of actions they considered wrong.

The governorship candidate further warned that political stipends and alliances were temporary, while character, reputation and integrity remained important throughout a person’s life.

He urged young people not to sacrifice their future opportunities, personal relationships and reputations for short-term financial benefits associated with political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Don’t mortgage your future for a monthly stipend. Don’t destroy relationships and tarnish your name because of 2027 election and temporary political benefits,” Nyameh warned.

He reiterated the need for youths to participate in politics responsibly while maintaining independent sources of income and protecting their personal integrity.
