Tinubu’s Re-election: Kalu, Tompolo Strengthen Southern Mobilisation Drive

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, and the convener of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, and the convener of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, have begun strategising on grassroots mobilisation to consolidate support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general elections.

The meeting between the two leaders focused on strengthening the President’s support base across the South-South and South-East geopolitical zones through voter sensitisation, youth engagement and ward-level coordination.

Kalu, who is also the Deputy Director-General, South II, of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC PCC), said the engagement was part of efforts to build an effective grassroots campaign structure capable of taking the administration’s message to communities across the country.

The meeting followed the commissioning of the national secretariat of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement in Abuja on Friday, with the group positioning itself as a platform for mobilising support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

Kalu described the movement as a critical component of the re-election campaign, stressing that electoral success would depend significantly on direct engagement with voters at the polling-unit and household levels.

He said the campaign would seek to take the message of the Renewed Hope Agenda to every doorstep, adding that collaboration with Tompolo, as convener of the movement, was strategic to expanding its reach.

The Deputy Speaker maintained that Tinubu had taken bold, reform-driven decisions aimed at stabilising the economy and strengthening national security, noting that the campaign would intensify efforts to communicate the administration’s policies and programmes to Nigerians.

At the commissioning of the movement’s national secretariat, Kalu highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which provides financial support to eligible students pursuing higher education, and the establishment of regional development commissions as examples of initiatives by the administration.

He also expressed appreciation to Tinubu for assenting to the South-East Development Commission Act, describing it as an important step towards addressing the region’s reconstruction, infrastructure and development priorities.

“As a representative of Bende Federal Constituency, I particularly appreciate President Tinubu‘s assent to the South-East Development Commission Act, an important step towards addressing reconstruction, infrastructure and development priorities in our region,” Kalu said.

He said the commission offered an institutional framework for addressing development challenges in the South-East and advancing the region’s long-term development priorities.

Kalu commended Tompolo for his initiative, commitment and resources in establishing the movement’s national secretariat, urging members to strengthen their structures and expand their mobilisation efforts nationwide.

He charged the movement to take its activities to all 774 local government areas and 8,809 wards, emphasising the need to reach voters in rural communities and urban neighbourhoods.

According to him, sustained grassroots engagement would be essential to explaining the administration’s policies, encouraging voter participation and consolidating support for Tinubu ahead of the next presidential election.

The Deputy Speaker also urged members to uphold democratic values by listening to citizens’ concerns and promoting peaceful participation in public affairs.

“Nigeria benefits when citizens can exchange ideas peacefully and participate in public life with confidence and dignity,” he said.

The PBAT Door-to-Door Movement is expected to coordinate its mobilisation activities through its national secretariat, with a focus on grassroots engagement and expanding the President’s support base ahead of the 2027 general elections.
