A digital platform designed to connect prospective homeowners, property developers, financial institutions, mortgage providers, cooperative societies and investors is being developed to improve access to housing finance and facilitate transactions across Nigeria’s housing value chain.
The platform, known as Proppay, is promoted by Affordable Housing Finance and Investment Summit and Expo Ltd (AHFIS) and is scheduled for launch at the organisation’s ninth annual summit next month. It is designed to facilitate continuous digital engagement, connect stakeholders to housing-related opportunities and support practical pathways to affordable homeownership.
The disclosure was made by its founder and Vice Board Chairman, Dr Yemi Adelakun, at the inaugural board meeting, where members were urged to support the initiative by providing strategic direction, leveraging their professional networks and attracting potential investment partners.
Proppay is expected to complement other initiatives, including the Housing Connect Platform and the AHFIS Exhibition and Virtual Pavilion, by improving coordination and accessibility across the housing ecosystem and strengthening connections between housing demand, supply, finance, investment and technology.
The initiative comes amid persistent challenges in affordable housing delivery in Nigeria, where limited access to mortgage financing and the widening gap between housing costs and household purchasing power continue to constrain homeownership.
However, Adelakun noted that the success of the initiatives would depend largely on stakeholder adoption, the availability of suitable financing products, strategic partnerships and the development of sustainable business models.
He also called for stronger governance, leadership and execution to support AHFIS’s long-term growth and impact, urging board members to contribute their experience, professional expertise, networks and perspectives to the organisation’s development.
Adelakun further invited interested board members to consider equity participation in Affordable Housing Finance and Investment Summit and Expo Ltd, subject to the company’s governance framework and applicable requirements.
The proposed equity participation is intended to strengthen the organisation’s institutional capacity and support its long-term development. Board members were also encouraged to mobilise sponsorship, investment and institutional partnerships for the annual summit.
