A 40-year-old barber, Segun Oladapo, has been remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling his 20-year-old niece, identified as God’sglory (not real name), in Ilupeju Estate, Ofatedo, Egbedore Local Government Area of Osun State.
The victim, said to be the first child of Oladapo’s elder sister born out of wedlock, had been in the custody of her maternal family and was described as malnourished before she was moved into her uncle’s home.
Police had said investigation was ongoing.
According to findings, Oladapo allegedly insisted on confirming the virginity of the 20-year-old before bringing her into his house, reportedly directing her biological mother to verify her virginity status with a candle. He only took her in after she was confirmed to be a virgin, under the guise of caring for her future and well-being.
It was gathered that on April 1, 2026, Oladapo allegedly defiled the young woman who was said to have been a virgin until the incident.
Sources close to the family described Oladapo as a violent individual with a history of substance abuse, who had previously fathered two children from two different women who had cohabited with him.
Following the alleged assault, Oladapo allegedly paid a woman identified as Yetunde, a self-acclaimed nurse and Patent Medicine operator in Ilupeju Estate, Ofatedo, who claims to hold an OND in Science Laboratory Technology from Esa-Oke Polytechnic, to flush the victim’s system to prevent pregnancy.
Yetunde was said to have told investigators that she only treated the victim for malaria and typhoid. However, the victim alleged that a drip containing unknown substances was administered on her on her uncle’s instruction, after he allegedly beat her to stupor and threatened to kill her if she reported the incident outside the family.
Efforts by the victim to seek help within the family reportedly failed, as she was allegedly told to keep the matter within the family and not seek external redress. Her silence, driven by vulnerability, allegedly emboldened a second incident about three weeks ago.
Frustrated, she confided in some persons who linked her with two female human rights activists in the state. The activists facilitated the reporting of the case at Ido-Osun Divisional Police Station on Saturday, October 10, 2026. The case was later transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit under Commander Jerry Ademuwagun.
The victim has also requested the return of her blood-stained cloth allegedly taken by the main suspect after the first incident.
The case was charged to court on Friday, October 16, 2026, before Magistrate Dr. Segun Ayilara.
Both suspects pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate ordered that Segun Oladapo be remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre till November 30, 2026, the next adjourned date.
The second suspect, Yetunde, who allegedly administered unknown drugs on the victim, was granted bail in the sum of N1 million due to her nursing a baby, with a condition to report in court until the next adjournment.
