The Northern Senators Forum has called for a Forward Operating Base along the River Benue corridor in Taraba State following the deadly attack on Binari community.
The forum also demanded intelligence-led patrols along the Kompany-Asusar route to prevent further killings and protect vulnerable communities.
The attack, which occurred on Friday, October 23, reportedly claimed the lives of worshippers, vigilantes, women and children shortly after Juma’at prayers in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area.
In a condolence message on Monday, the forum’s Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, urged security agencies to strengthen operations in the affected areas.
He specifically called on the police, Department of State Services and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to coordinate efforts to restore security.
Yar’Adua described the killings as barbaric and expressed sympathy with the Taraba State Governor, residents and bereaved families.
He also demanded a thorough investigation to ensure the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted.
The senator urged the National Emergency Management Agency and well-meaning Nigerians to provide urgent humanitarian assistance to affected residents.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased, recovery of the injured and comfort for bereaved families.
Yar’Adua also called for lasting peace in Taraba State and Nigeria.
