Nigerian internet users face about 5,740 cyberattacks weekly, a 109 per cent increase from last year, prompting cybersecurity firm ShieldForce Corporation to introduce a paid security protection software for individuals and businesses.
The Boston-based firm unveiled its Cybersecurity Protection Packages in Lagos, targeting users seeking protection against malware, ransomware and phishing attacks.
The launch comes amid rising cyber threats globally. Check Point Research’s September 2026 report showed that organisations worldwide faced an average of 2,803 cyberattacks weekly, up 48 per cent year-on-year. Ransomware attacks rose by 53 per cent to 824 in September, accounting for 13 per cent of published attacks.
In Africa, government institutions, financial services firms, and energy and utility companies were among the most targeted sectors.
ShieldForce’s package costs N65,000 annually for one user and N180,000 for three devices. The software, previously available only to businesses, is now being offered to individuals for installation on personal computers.
A software engineer at the company, Akor Akazue, said the product uses artificial intelligence to detect suspicious activities associated with malware and ransomware. It also scans links in real time to identify potential phishing attempts and uses Extended Detection and Response (XDR) technology to detect and respond to threats.
He said the software also provides reports on how attacks occurred, their possible sources and recommended remedies.
The company’s pre-sales consultant, Peace Nwangere, said the service was designed to help users identify fraudulent activities and understand how to prevent them.
ShieldForce partnered with Softwareshop Limited to market the product in Nigeria, with the latter serving as its go-to-market partner in Ikeja Computer Village. Its Chief Executive Officer, Austin Agbakor, said the company began researching the local market in 2025 before submitting a proposal to EPINEC Nigeria Limited, the sole distributor of ShieldForce products in Africa.
He said the partnership would also allow dealers and other partners to earn commissions through a referral programme.
Agbakor added that the software has two editions and can be used by individuals, government offices and non-governmental organisations.
