The Cross River State Police Command has deepened collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) to strengthen grassroots security, improve intelligence gathering and prevent crime across the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, disclosed this on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, during a meeting with the VGN Commander, Cross River State Command, Ntufam Dr. Hayford S. Edet, and members of the Command Management Team at the Police Headquarters, Calabar.
CP Ordue said effective community policing depends on timely intelligence, active community participation and close cooperation between the Police and credible local security stakeholders.
He urged the VGN to support proactive policing by promptly reporting suspicious activities, sharing credible information and working with the Police to identify and address emerging security threats before they escalate.
The Police Commissioner stressed that the partnership must operate within the framework of the law, with strict regard for professionalism, discipline and respect for human rights.
He cautioned against jungle justice, unlawful detention and abuse of authority, making it clear that community-based security efforts must complement, not undermine, lawful policing and administration of justice.
In his response, VGN Commander, Ntufam Dr. Hayford S. Edet, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to supporting lawful security initiatives and strengthening cooperation with the Police.
The engagement reflects the Command’s continued focus on community-oriented, intelligence-led policing and its determination to mobilise responsible stakeholder participation in preventing crime and protecting lives and property.
Meanwhile, the Command has called on residents, traditional rulers, community leaders and stakeholders to remain vigilant and provide credible information to assist security agencies.
The Command said emergencies and security concerns should be reported to its Control Room on 0704 177 7060 or 0705 335 5415, assuring residents of continued commitment to public safety and reiterating that security is a shared responsibility.
