Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick and Bruno Fernandes held talks at the club’s Carrington training ground after the midfielder was dropped to the bench in the loss to Bournemouth on Sunday.

The Manchester United captain watched as the Red Devils fell to a 3-0 loss to the Cherries on Sunday afternoon as the torrid season continued for Michael Carrick’s side.

The face-to-face talks between Carrick and Fernandes came after the Portuguese midfielder openly criticised Carrick’s tactical set-up in the 4-1 loss to Como in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday last week.

According to reports, both men are keen on setting the brewing tension at the club aside and are focused on improving the team’s results going forward, with the Red Devils set to face Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.

Football transfers expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the meeting between Carrick and Fernandes in a post he shared on his X page on Wednesday afternoon.

His post read: “Michael Carrick and captain Bruno Fernandes have met face-to-face to clear the air after the Portuguese star was benched for 90 minutes against Bournemouth. Bruno, now expected to feature against Chelsea on Saturday.”

Manchester United’s recent results have piled pressure on Michael Carrick, with the 20-time Premier League champions winless in their last eight matches across all competitions.

Bruno Fernandes is United’s most creative outlet and was instrumental in helping Carrick’s side finish in the top four last season as he went on to win the Premier League and PFA Player of the Year awards while also setting the record for the most assists in the history of the league.

Although the Portuguese midfielder has been underwhelming so far this season, his return against Chelsea could prove a thing as the Red Devils look to end their winless streak.

Bruno Fernandes played a role in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in their last visit, as he provided the assist to Matheus Cunha’s goal that secured maximum points.
