One person has died and another sustained injuries in a multiple-vehicle crash near the old Sagamu toll gate on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway in Ogun State.
The accident occurred at about 4:50 a.m. yesterday and involved a white Sino truck without a registration number, a DAF truck with registration number TRE, and a green Mack truck, also without a registration number.
The spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to journalists in Abeokuta.
According to Akinbiyi, six people, all male, were involved in the crash, which claimed one life and left another person injured.
He said the accident occurred when the driver of a Sienna bus drove against traffic and attempted to flag down an oncoming truck, causing the bus to lose control and ram into vehicles parked at a station.
Akinbiyi added that TRACE officers who arrived at the scene were informed that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) had taken the deceased and injured victim away before their arrival.
He said traffic was diverted to facilitate the removal of the wrecked vehicles, which were later towed to the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) of the police in Sagamu.
According to him, the road has since been cleared and is now free for traffic.
