Miva expands academic portfolio to 37, adds seven programmes

Miva Open University

Miva Open University has secured approval to introduce seven new academic programmes at undergraduate and doctoral levels, bringing its programme portfolio to 37 as the institution expands its offerings to meet growing demand for flexible higher education.

The newly approved programmes comprise three doctoral degrees and four undergraduate courses, covering information technology, public administration, public health, political science, international relations, project management, and logistics and supply chain management.

The university said the three doctoral programmes, to be domiciled in its School of Postgraduate Studies, are Doctor of Information Technology (DIT), Doctor of Public Administration (DPA), and Doctor of Public Health (DPH).

The four undergraduate programmes, under the School of Management and Social Sciences, are B.Sc. Political Science, B.Sc. International Relations, B.Sc. Project Management, and B.Sc. Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

The expansion comes as the institution prepares to introduce 10 new programmes in January 2027, including the newly approved courses and three additional programmes: Master of Economic Policy Management (M.EPM), Master of Communication and Media Practice (M.CMP), and B.Ed. Educational Technology.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tayo Arulogun, said the growing range of programmes reflected the university’s commitment to providing opportunities for learners with different academic interests and professional ambitions.

“By broadening our academic portfolio, we are creating more opportunities for learners with diverse interests and career aspirations to pursue relevant qualifications and advance their knowledge across levels,” he said.

The university also disclosed that two other programmes, B.Sc. Insurance and Risk Management and B.Ed. Science Education (Mathematics), had previously received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and were expected to become available by mid-2027.

Arulogun said the expansion would give prospective students more options to pursue qualifications aligned with their academic interests and career goals, while enabling working professionals to advance their education without putting their careers on hold.

He noted that offering programmes across undergraduate and doctoral levels would help the university cater to learners at different stages of their academic and professional journeys.

He added that the institution would continue to develop programmes that respond to changing industry requirements and emerging areas of professional practice.

According to him, expanding access to relevant higher education remains central to Miva’s approach, with the university seeking to equip learners with the knowledge and competencies required to contribute meaningfully to their chosen fields.
