Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operator of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), Lagos, has intensified preparations for the commencement of regional flight operations.
The preparations followed the recent settlement of the long-running concession dispute involving the terminal.
A statement yesterday by the Head, Corporate Communications, BASL, Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, said the Chairman of BASL, Dr Wale Babalakin, on Thursday toured the terminal operator’s facilities to see for himself the readiness of the company to begin regional operations as spelt out in the settlement agreement it had with the Federal government.
The statement hinted that the inspection covered key areas undergoing preparatory works, including the regional arrivals area, apron extension and staff and concessionaire access gate.
During the inspection, BASL’s Acting Chief Operating Officer, Remi Jibodu, briefed the Chairman on the progress of the ongoing works and operational arrangements.
Babalakin congratulated the team on the progress recorded and urged it to sustain the momentum to ensure that the facilities were ready within the stipulated timeline.
He also stressed the need for close coordination with relevant government agencies and regulatory authorities, particularly the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), to ensure that all necessary inspections, assessments and approvals were secured before operations commenced.
The statement hinted further that Babalakin further charged the team to pay attention to finishing, safety standards, operational readiness and stakeholder coordination.
Jibodu reaffirmed the team’s commitment to meeting the stipulated timeline, noting that efforts would be intensified across all workstreams to complete outstanding works and operational preparations.
He said: “We will strengthen engagement with relevant agencies and regulatory authorities to ensure that all required inspections and approvals were completed before the commencement of regional flights.”
Also speaking, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of BASL, Idunnu Oyebolu, said the company was working simultaneously to prepare for regional operations and accommodate the anticipated increase in passenger traffic during the year-end travel season.
She said BASL’s priority was to ensure that its facilities, personnel and processes were adequately prepared to deliver safe, seamless and efficient passenger services.
Oyebolu added that BASL was focused on maintaining service standards while positioning MMA2 to accommodate the expected developments.
