.Provision of 100 free medical emergency kits to mosques

Mosque administrators, Imams and Muslim community leaders across Lagos State have been called upon to participate in a three-day initiative aimed at reforming mosque governance, raising public health standards, and fostering sustainable community development.

Organised by the Mosque Guidance and Development Lagos Initiative (MGDLI), the conference, running from Friday, October 30 to Sunday, November 1, 2026, seeks to equip faith leaders with practical operational tools, structured record-keeping frameworks and emergency response capabilities.

Convened under the theme “Building Better Mosques: Documentation, Good Governance and Hygienic Environment,” the event brings together Islamic scholars, legal practitioners, public health professionals and urban development advocates to address persistent structural and administrative challenges facing places of worship across the metropolis.

Highlighting the scope of the gathering, the Chairman of MGDLI, Alhaji Musoddiq Adele Sanni, emphasized that institutionalising sound management practices is essential for expanding the social impact of faith institutions.

“A well-managed mosque is more than a place of worship,” Sanni said. “It serves as a hub for learning, community engagement, social development and service to humanity. This programme is designed to equip mosque leaders with the practical skills and administrative discipline required to fulfill these vital roles effectively.”

The opening day features a comprehensive medical outreach conducted in partnership with the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Muslim Nurse Forum.

The outreach will provide attendees with free health screenings, hypertension and blood sugar assessments, preventative health counseling and clinical referrals.

On Saturday, October 31, the focus shifts to environmental sanitation, public hygiene, and disaster preparedness.

To support operational safety, MGDLI will distribute 100 first-aid kits to participating mosques, accompanied by practical demonstrations on handling medical emergencies within congregational spaces.

“Clean and safe mosques contribute directly to the overall well-being of worshippers,” Sanni added. “Through this initiative, we are urging mosque administrators to integrate health, hygiene, and emergency preparedness into daily management protocols.”

Academic and professional insights will anchor the proceedings. Prof. Saheed Olurotimi Timehin, a professor at Lagos State University and prominent Da’wah scholar, is billed to deliver the keynote address, framing meticulous documentation and environmental sanitation as critical pillars of long-term Islamic community development.

A panel discussion featuring senior Muslim leaders and administrative experts will further deliberate on institutional governance, fiscal accountability, and collaborative community management.

Organisers noted that the platform is structured to foster inter-institutional networking, allowing leaders from diverse Islamic organisations to share best practices and forge long-term partnerships.

Reaffirming its broader mandate, MGDLI reiterated its dedication to strengthening grassroots Muslim institutions across Lagos State through continuous capacity building, policy guidance and cross-sector stakeholder collaboration
