Semaform Foundation is set to launch a platform connecting organisations with grants and investment for climate projects as Nigeria faces a projected $336.5 billion financing requirement for emissions reduction and climate adaptation between 2026 and 2035.
The platform, Grant Swipe, will be unveiled at the foundation’s Handshake Summit and Awards in Antalya, Türkiye, on November 13, during the COP31 climate conference.
It is designed to help community organisations find funders and enable investors to identify projects that need support.
The launch comes as access to climate finance remains a key concern for vulnerable communities, whose projects often struggle to secure the funding needed to address environmental risks.
The Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change, Tenioye Majekodunmi, said Nigeria would require about $195 billion for emissions mitigation and $141.5 billion for adaptation over the 10-year period.
She said the investments could create jobs and strengthen economic resilience, particularly in energy, agriculture, infrastructure and other key sectors.
Semaform Foundation’s convener, Chaste Inegbedion, said the initiative was designed to move climate action beyond plans and commitments to practical results.
“Funding is the difference between a climate plan and climate progress. We created the Handshake Summit & Awards so that recognition becomes relationships, and relationships become funded, measurable action,” he said.
The invitation-only summit, themed “Climate Finance, AI Investment and Trade,” will also examine food insecurity and the question of how green finance can reach women and persons with disabilities.
A panel, titled “Happy and Hungry”, will explore why hunger persists despite increased agricultural output, while considering the effects of climate disruption, fragmented trade and changing demand on food systems.
Another session, “Ladies in Climate,” will debate how funding for climate-friendly projects can become more accessible to women and persons with disabilities, who are often excluded from financing decisions.
Twenty climate leaders will be honoured at the event, including Chairman of the House Committee on Climate Change and Security, Dr Kama Nkemkanma, and Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency General Manager, Dr Babatunde Ajayi.
