Oyo doctors, LAUTECH lecturers begin indefinite strike

LAUTECH

Alli assures workers of prompt payment of entitlements

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso branch, has commenced an indefinite strike over non-implementation of the 2025 agreement between the Federal Government and the union, as well as outstanding staff entitlements.

The industrial action took effect yesterday, following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the university management, which the union described as unsatisfactory in its response to its demands.

In a statement dated October 29 and signed by the branch’s Chairperson, Prof. Olujimi Dada, and Secretary, Dr Soji Arinola, the union said the decision followed an emergency congress held on Wednesday to review efforts to resolve the dispute.

The congress came after a meeting between union representatives and the university’s management on Tuesday, October 27, aimed at resolving the disagreement and preventing a disruption of academic activities.

ASUU said the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement was signed in December 2025 and subsequently approved for implementation by the university’s governing council.

However, the council and management reportedly attributed the delay in full implementation to inadequate funding.

The union said it had engaged the university’s management, governing council and Oyo State Government through formal and informal channels to resolve the dispute before resorting to the industrial action.

It also raised concerns about the university’s governance structure, particularly the composition of the staff disciplinary committee and the Committee of Provosts and Deans, which it said was currently under the Vice-Chancellor’s office.

ASUU declared that the industrial action would remain total and indefinite until the university’s management met its demands.

MEANWHILE, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Sharafadeen Alli, has assured all categories of workers in the state of prompt payment of salaries, allowances and all other entitlements if elected as governor in 2027.

His assurance came on the heels of industrial actions embarked upon by medical and dental officers in the state and lecturers at LAUTECH, Ogbomoso.

A statement by Director of Media and Publicity, Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO), Bisi Oladele, said Alli described the industrial actions as deeply troubling, particularly against the backdrop of persistent complaints about inadequate medical personnel, poor equipment and deteriorating facilities in government-owned hospitals across the state.

Alli, while berating Governor Seyi Makinde for ignoring doctors’ and lecturers’ strike and continuing with his presidential campaign, accused the governor of insensitivity to the plight of the masses and thousands of students attending LAUTECH.
