Tens of thousands of supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) converged on the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, for a mega rally organised by the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM), pledging to deliver two million votes for President Bola Tinubu, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
The rally, which attracted political groups, artisan associations, market unions and youth organisations from the nine local government areas in Ogun East Senatorial District, was aimed at strengthening the party’s grassroots support ahead of the elections.
The event began at about 7 am with a solidarity walk involving thousands of YPM supporters. The procession started from Mobalufon Junction, passed through major parts of Ijebu-Ode and terminated at the stadium.
Accompanied by drummers, cultural troupes and motorcyclists, the participants chanted solidarity songs in support of Adeola, highlighting his legislative contributions, particularly his role as chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.
The rally was attended by political leaders, legislators and local government chairmen from Ogun East, who reaffirmed their support for Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration and endorsed Yayi’s ambition to succeed him.
A major highlight of the event was the inauguration of more than 1,100 Artisan Ambassadors drawn from various trades, including tailoring, mechanics, carpentry and hairdressing. The initiative is expected to strengthen the movement’s grassroots structures across the senatorial district.
Speakers at the rally urged residents to sustain their support for Tinubu’s economic reforms and the Abiodun administration’s infrastructure development projects across the state.
Addressing the crowd, the convener of YPM, Engr Akintunde Armstrong, said the Ogun East rally was the first of three planned mobilisation exercises ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said similar rallies would be held in Ogun Central and Ogun West to consolidate support for the APC across the state.
“Today, we are sounding it loud and clear that in Ogun State, it is only APC. We will replicate this rally in Ogun Central and Ogun West soon. This massive support is organic, and it will continue until all our candidates are delivered,” Armstrong said.
In his remarks, the governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, commended the massive turnout, describing it as evidence of growing grassroots support for the APC and a reaffirmation of his confidence in the political potential of young people.
“I came in here and was marvelled at the sea of heads in solidarity with our party, the APC. I hear some of you have been here since 7 am. Whatever is making you come this far is a reassurance that my belief in the youth of our country is never misplaced.”
The state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who introduced the APC candidates for Ogun East, called on party members to ensure that the party secured votes across all elective positions, stressing the need for a united electoral front in support of Tinubu.
He said Ogun State had promised to deliver two million votes for the president and urged party faithful to ensure that no vote was lost.
“We have promised our president two million votes, and not a single vote must be lost. After all, there is no opposition in Ogun State,” the governor said.
