
The seminar with the theme: The Reality of Women’s Rights in Nigeria took the time to consider and evaluate the plight of women, most especially in Africa and how to overcome this challenges.
The seminar which had notable women , mostly from the legal profession in attendance included the wives of Lagos and Kwara States governor, Mrs Bolanle Ambode and Mrs Omolewa Ahmed.
The event presented an opportunity to appraise and commend the recently assented Violence Against Person Prohibition (VAPP) bill. They said that the Act has provided a situation whereby women are protected and commended the appropriate body for making it work after such a long wait.
Most of the women who spoke at the event emphasised the need for government and necessary agencies to make the law work, because the society has gotten to the stage that harassment of women is the order of the day.
Also as part of their advocacy, the women also highlighted the need to also protect the girl-child from all forms of abuses.
Present at the event included, Mrs. Titilayo Akinlawon SAN, Mrs. Yewande Zaccheaus, Mrs Titi Osuntokun, Mrs Rosemary Koku, and Hajia Saudatu Mahdi.
Others include: Mrs Siju Iluyomade, Ms Eno Udoh Olafisoye, Mrs Folashade Alli and Mrs Josephine Effah-Chukwuma.
