Kogi trains accountants as internal auditors
DETERMINED to ensure good governance by strengthening its financial control and accountability mechanisms, the Kogi state government has embarked on a five- day training workshop for accountants in the state service.
Specifically, the state’s Accountant General, Ibrahim Idakwo said the training was informed by the need for government to block all leakages through a reform in its financial processes.
Ibrahim, who gave the indication in Lokoja while declaring the workshop for its accountants to be converted to internal auditors open, noted that the workshop would equip the participants with requisite skills in public finance management and control.
Besides he charged the internal auditors in the state to live up to their responsibility as watchdogs of accounting procedures to enable the state have good internal control, check and balances in all its financial dealings.
He pointed out that Internal Auditors are like watchdogs who strengthen the accounting procedures to have good internal control and internal check and balances at all times of financial activities.
According to him, “This programme is a follow up to the transformation agenda of the present administration, we are here today to convert accountants into internal auditor in order to strengthen internal control in all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state.
