Mimiko reads riot act to NURTW

MimikoAhead of the forthcoming election of the Ondo State council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko has warned members of the Union to shun violence or face the wrath of the law.

Governor Mimiko gave the warning while commissioning a new Secretariat of the Union along Ado-Ekiti road in Akure, the state capital.

The governor, who ruled against the “winner takes all” syndrome, charged would be winners of the election to accommodate their opponents and work together harmoniously in the interest of peace and development of the state.

He noted that the union under the leadership of its national President, Alhaji Najeem Yasin and the Ondo State Chairman, Chief Obayoriade Oladutele has been rebranded and repositioned to ensure peace in the country and achieve effective service delivery.  

Mimiko, who described public transportation as very central to the economic prosperity of any nation, noted that his administration has continued to enjoy tremendous cooperation and support from members of the union.  

In his speech, the national President of the Union, Alhaji Najeem Yasin thanked the state government for the allocation of vehicles to members of the union at subsidised rate, charging his members to continue to support the state government in the sustainability of peace and developmental stride of the state.

Earlier in his welcome address, the state Chairman of the union, Chief Obayoriade Oladutele assured that the new secretariat would enable the union to function effectively in a conducive environment. The election is expected to hold before the end of the year.
