DESPITE the widespread cases of cervical cancer among Nigerian women in recent times, the wife of Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Zainab Bagudu, is optimistic that the fight against the disease could be won with more efforts from stakeholders in the health sector.

She said in the last six years, the Medicare Cancer Foundation, which she put in place has so far freely screened 15,000 women suffering from cancer related diseases, especially in Abuja and other parts of northern Nigeria in 2015.

The Medicare Cancer Foundation is founded by Zainab Bagudu, who is a paediatrician, with the sole aim of reaching out to the needy in the society especially women.

She also gave the assurance that cancer related diseases could be reduced drastically if stakeholders in the health sector pull their resources together to support the course.

She made this known at the weekend in a message at a one-day Medicare Mobile Health Outreach programme organised by Arise Women Mobile Health Clinic in Abuja.

She used the occasion to call on Nigerians to rise above religion leanings and ensure that the menace is brought to minimal control as no religious sect is free from any kind of ailment.

While appreciating the Founder of Arise Women Medical Outreach, Pastor Siju Iluyomade for organising the event to touch the lives of women in a special way, the wife of Kebbi State governor promised to welcome the outreach programme in her state so that women in that part of the country could also benefit from such gestures.

Earlier in her welcome address, Pastor Iluyomade described women as a brand stressing, “We are here to ensure that the less privileged are taken care of. Our nation needs no division at anytime, that is why I am very close to the wife of the Kebbi State governor because we are on the same page to bring succour to the needy in the society.”
She said, Arise is out to provide health care for every woman, men, especially the less privileged in our society. “We are putting the searchlight on government’s policy of primary health care, Arise sees to the empowerment of women, health wise, economic wise and will need to embrace shelter, education, among others.”
