Kebbi partners UNICEF on micro nutrition powder
Kebbi State government in collaboration with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has flagged off one day sensitisation programme on micro nutrition powder in the state.
The programme, which took place yesterday at the school of nursing and midwifery in Birinin Kebbi was aimed at promoting breastfeeding of a newly-born baby for minimum of six months.
The wife of Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Zainab Bagudu who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Hajiya Halima Boye Dikko said the aim of the programme was designed to sensitise the women on the significance of breastfeeding.
She added that the State government is also ready to fight the menace of maternal mortality in the health sector through the collaboration with donor agencies, NGOs and other civil society organisations in order to put sanity in the institution.
At the occasion two presentations were made by the representatives from the state and Federal Ministries of Health, Mrs. Bitrus Kwere, a nutrition officer from the state ministry of health, and Mr. John Urakpe, a Deputy Director at the Federal Ministry of Health.
