Budget critics, ill-informed, says Okechukwu
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu, yesterday, flayed criticism of the N2.2b deficit in President Muhammadu Buhari’s 2016 budget proposal, describing the critics as being ‘unrealistic and ill-informed.’
Spokesperson of the APC leadership caucus in the South East, Osita Okechukwu, said this while receiving about 100 decampees from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in Eke ward in Udi Local Council.
He said that contrary to criticisms, Nigeria would harvest from the President’s high profile ratings by the international community, which would enable the country to attract funds for critical infrastructure.
He stated that President Buhari would not disappoint the country, and that his promise to revamp the Enugu coal during his campaign would commence in the second week of next month.
Expressing confidence that Buhari’s credibility attracted the investors to the Enugu coal project, he said that it was a development that should be embraced by Ndigbo, especially with the failure of former administration, which had two ministers of power, who were of Igbo origin, to revamp the sector.
He said, “In three years’ time the rapid development of Enugu Coal will rejuvenate Enugu’s status as the original Coal City, and provide massive employment, contrary to the wild dreams of those who play the ethnic-card.
“The challenge to those, who canvas Biafra today, is to explain why two Ministers from Enugu State and the former president failed to fix Enugu Coal in spite of billions of Naira budgeted? The same fate befell the 2nd Niger Bridge and federal roads in the South East.
“Ndigbo should think out of box, count our blessings in Nigeria, and say reject demagogues, who want to reverse the
achievements of our hard working and enterprising people in every town in Nigeria,” Okechukwu added.
He stated that the salvation of Nigeria had commenced with President Buhari, calling on Ndigbo to show support for the new administration.
