AS we celebrate the New Year, religious leaders have urged Nigerians to amend their ways and anchor their faith in God.
Those who sent in their goodwill messages to Nigerians include the Archbishop of Lagos, His Grace, Most Rev Dr. Alfred Adewale Martins, the Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence Dr. Samuel Chukwuemeka Kanu Uche, the General Overseer, Ewulomi Evangelical Church of Christ (CIS), Maryland, Ikeja, Lagos, Evangelist Oluwademilade Akpata and the Presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Dr. Mike Okonkwo.
In their separate messages, Martins condemned the recent killing of over 60 Nigerians in multiple bomb blasts that occurred in Maiduguri and Adamawa State, which was carried out by the Islamic sect Boko Haram. He called on the government to urgently reappraise its strategies in its war against terrorists attacks with a view to decisively ending all forms of insurgency in the north-eastern part of the country.
Archbishop Martins, who spoke though his Director of Social Communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Msgr. Gabriel Osu, also cautioned the Presidency not to give the populace a false sense of assurance that all is well, when indeed there is still much to be done in safeguarding the lives and properties of Nigerians.
The Prelate of MCN, Dr. Samuel Chukwuemeka Kanu Uche, enjoined Nigerians to support the present administration to bring about the desired change that Nigerians are yearning for. He equally admonished them to always proffer constructive suggestions and meaningful criticism that would help the administration to make life easy for the common man.
Also in his New Year message to Nigerians and those in leadership of authority, the General Overseer, Ewulomi Evangelical Church of Christ (CIS), Maryland, Ikeja, Lagos, Evangelist Oluwademilade Akpata urged the masses to pray for the President and his cabinet members so that God will use them this year to turn the country around.
Bishop Mike Okonkwo in his message to Nigerians declared 2016 as a “year of all sufficiency”.
The cleric who called on Nigerians not to lose hope, said: “Because we are entering into the year of ‘All Sufficiency’ in spite of the daunting socio-economic challenges facing us as a nation, Nigeria has a great future which God has laid out plans for.”
