Lagos Former Deputy Governor, Sosan, Reaches Out To Government and Parents On School Development

SCHOOL-VISIT-2Former Lagos State deputy governor, Princess Sarah Adebisi Sosan, has called on the government and parents in Lagos state to pool resources together to promote a condusive-learning environment in schools. She made the call when she visited her alma mater, Awori Ajeromi Secondary School in Agboju, Amuwo Odofin, with other old students recently.

Sosan, who as deputy governor, during Babatunde Raji Fashola’s first term as Lagos State governor, also doubled as the Commissioner for Education, told the principal, teachers and pupils of the school she was a student of the school between 1967 and 1972.

She urged them to make the best use of the facilities provided for their use and be good ambassadors of the school, as well as appreciate the efforts of successive governments in providing the facilities. She counseled the teachers and pupils to take care of the available structures should and also charged the parents to support the school.

While recalling her days in the school, she said, “Looking at the environment, it brings back memories. You are lucky to have these facilities now. We used lantern and drank water from the nearby stream, but today we give God the glory. Make the best use of what you have because facilities will never be enough and be good ambassadors of the school,” she said.

Accompanied by the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS) Education District V, Mrs. Mary Iji; former Permanent Secretary, Teachers’ Establishment and Pensions Office, Otunba Nurudeen Ojora-Adejiyan; chairperson Central Working Committee (CWC) Awori-Ajeromi Grammar School Old Students’ Association (AAGSOSA), Chief Mrs. Bolanle Oshinowo, and others, the entourage toured the entire school to have a first-hand view of the school environment and promised to use her contact to attract more developments in the school.

She noted that a collapse section of the school fence poses security challenge the school, even as the principal and teachers affirmed that street urchins had at different times waylaid the students, forcefully taking their valuables including money and mobile phones.

Sosan also promised that she will do all within her capacity to ensure the incumbent deputy governor, who also doubles as Commissioner for Education, Dr Idiat Adebule, visit the school and see things for herself.
