Financial stocks contribute 63.3 per cent to total transactions on NSE

THE financial services sector dominated in volume terms on the activity chart with 764.790 million shares valued at N4.858 billion in 8,904 deals at the end of transactions last week

The sector contributed 85.01per cent and 63.34per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

Following the financial sector last week, was the conglomerates industry with 40.164 million shares worth N100.471 million in 626 deals.

The consumer goods industry ranked third with a turnover of 40.006 million shares worth N1.707 billion in 2,116 deals.

Specifically, trading in the top three equities namely – Access Bank Plc, Guaranty Trust Bank Plc and United Bank for Africa Plc.(measured by volume) accounted for 339.027 million shares worth N2.800 billion in 3,116 deals, contributing 37.69per cent and 36.51per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

Last week, a turnover of 899.604 million shares worth N7.669 billion were recorded in 14,164 deals by investors on the floor of the Exchange, in contrast to a total of 2.965 billion shares valued at N9.364 billion that changed hands last week in 7,174 deals during the preceding week.

Also traded during the week were a total of 12,016 units of Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) valued at N2.050 million executed in 25 deals, compared with a total of 60,171 units valued at N484,396.36 transacted last week in 20 deals

There was no transaction recorded on bonds this week under review. However, a total of 75,750 units of Federal Government bonds valued at N128.722 million were traded last week in 1 deal.

The NSE All-Share Index and Market Capitalization depreciated by 5.63per cent to close the week at 27,028.39 and N9.296 trillion respectively.

Similarly, all other Indices finished lower during the week, with the exception of the NSE Industrial Goods Index that rose by 0.45per cent to close at 2,176.44

17 equities appreciated in price during the week, lower than 42 equities of the previous week. 50 equities depreciated in price, higher than 22 equities of the previous week, while 123 equities remained unchanged, lower than 126 equities recorded in the previous week.
