Prof. Ibrahim Garba, the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria on Tuesday cautioned students against allowing themselves to be used as instruments for violence and instability.

Garba gave the warning at the 2015/2016 matriculation ceremony of 10,049 students, held at the institution’s main campus in Samaru, Zaria.

He urged the students to be law-abidingnd respect all rules and regulations governing the university.
The V-C advised the matriculating students to constantly evaluate their intellectual gains as well as their contributions to the country.

Garba identified education as a path to intellectual proficiency.

“University environment will be totally different from what you have hitherto been used to, and largely because of this, you might fall prey to acts that betray impatience, irrationality and pursuit of self.

“Therefore, do not allow yourselves to be used in any agenda that does not promote the peace and well-being of this country.

“You have an excellent opportunity to interact with several thousands of young men and women from other parts of this great country,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that about 45,421 UTME and Direct Entry candidates applied for admission into the institution, but only 6,641 and 3,408 students respectively were successful.
