SIR: With the pragmatic steps taken by Governor Abiola Ajimobi to curb the excesses of the members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Oyo State, which actually succeeded in putting an end to violence, arson, killing and restlessness that characterised the activities of the NURTW in the past, many believe that the NURTW members have turned a new coat. However, the killing of a produce merchant, Azeez Suleman Bada at Sekoni junction, Ogbomoso on Monday, January 4, 2016 allegedly by some members of NURTW showed that it is not yet uhuru as far as the menace of the NURTW is concerned.
Eyewitness accounts say that the NURTW members in a Mazda Saloon car with a private inscription on its number plate hit a boy at Osupa Elemu junction and did not stop. Azeez Suleman Bada who was said to be riding a motorcycle and witnessed the incident pursued the car and informed them of their action. Accounts said further that the occupants alighted from the car, wore magical rings in their fingers and slapped Bada which resulted in his tongue sprouting out. He died before any assistance could come his way. It is reported that police arrested some suspects, but the fear of many is that once politicians come in, the matter will be thrown under the carpet as usual.
This piece is, therefore, to seek justice for Bada and his dependants who include an aged mother, wife and many children. Therefore, appeal is made to the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Oyebade and the Inspector-General, Solomon Arase to see to it that the killers of Bada are brought to book so as to serve as deterrent to others.
