Why did you set up WWS?
To be honest, WWS was born out of being told off by my Facebook friends for sharing too many pictures. I guess it is in my nature to share anything that stimulates me with my friends. I set up the Facebook page of WWS as a hobby, to feed my need and share the incredible stories and photos I would come across.
You seem to have a good eye for variety, have you worked in a magazine before?
No, absolutely not. I always go with my gut. Whether it is a work of art or an obscure poem, if I like it, I share it; it sounds so simple, but that is the honest truth.
Why do you think you have such a large, high-quality audience?
I would say it is because of my worldview. I am a Nigerian man who schooled in England and has travelled all over the world. I would say I have a different background from a lot of the editors of major magazines of the print era in New York and London. Beyond that, I guess I am just a proud nerd, who does everything with his heart first.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
That’s a tough question, but two things come to mind. The first and most humbling is the hundreds of emails I get from my followers every week. The second is the ability to give visibility to unknown artists or singers, and to republish excellent old stories that haven’t been seen by the majority of the general public. That gives me a lot of joy.
Have your fans suspected that you are Nigerian in the past?
Yes, when I posted some pictures of Suya I think that was a dead give away.
What is the next step for your website/platform?
The amazing thing is that there are no limits with the Internet. If people like what I do, there is no reason why WWS cannot be one of the leading platforms of its type globally. I am in talks with some large media groups at the moment; they are more interested in my ability to pick an image, story or video that resonates with so many than anything else, which should tell you which direction online publishing is going in.
How would you describe WWS in your own words?
If you can imagine the Internet as a vast dimly lit library, I am the nerdy guy that appears from the shadows to shine a light on all the amazing stories this world has to offer.
