Experts Urge FG to Design Enduring Maritime Policy

maritime-2FEDERAL Government has been urged to articulate enduring maritime policy that would make the sector ‘cash cow’ for the country.

The Chief Executive Officer of Marine Platforms, Mr. Taofik Adegbite, gave the advice in Ibadan, while delivering a lecture entitled: ‘Nigeria Beyond Oil: The Maritime Options’ at an event organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council.

Adegbite, who spoke in Ibadan, argued that an enduring maritime policy could further stimulate investment and capacity building in the maritime sector.

He also enjoined government to establish a Strategy and Policy Integration Unit in the Presidency to coordinate and monitor government policies, implementation and sustainability, so as to get the intrinsic values and stimulate national growth, adding that professionals should essentially man the unit.

The maritime expert insisted that this was the only way the government can ensure the eradication of superfluous policies, which most of the times, ran in conflict with the overall interest of the populace and the achievement of a long-term goals.

Ibadan Council Chairman of NUJ, Mr Gbenga Opadotun, said the lecture became inevitable in view of dwindling oil revenue.
