
THE late Pa Jonathan Asijie Aidokhai (Boy O Boy) was born on July 18, 1935 to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Eimi Aidokhai of Uhonmora – Ora, Owan West local council of Edo State. He was educated at St. Peter’s Anglican School, Uhonmora. After his primary school, he proceeded to Government Trade Centre, Enugu, where he studied Welding and Fabrication. He later attended Yaba College of Education, Lagos in the early 60s to study Management, and later Automobile Engineering.
After school, his working carrier began with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Lagos. Later, he joined the British Engineering West Africa Company (BEWAC), Lagos. At BEWAC, he rose to the position of Technical Manager in 1971 and was later transferred to the Kano Branch in 1987. In 1991, he was transferred back to the Lagos office and deployed to the Isolo branch where he eventually retired.
Pa Aidokhai was a man given to community service. He was the Chairman of the Parents’ Teachers Association of Ajeromi Ifelodun Primary School, Osho Drive, between 1970 and 1980. In keeping with his grassroots philosophy, he kept very close touch with his community at home. As a man deeply convinced about the importance of education, he initiated steps that led to the establishment of Uhonmora Secondary Commercial School in 1979. He was also instrumental to the building of a permanent market for Uhonmora Community.
On retirement, Pa Aidokhai returned to Uhonmora in 1995. As a grassroots man he return placed him on a vantage point to touch the lives of his people. He served his people more, leading to his entry into the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and became the Ward Chairman for Uhonmora between 1999 and 2003.
In this period of community service, Pa Aidokhai got actively involved in the activities of his church, St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Uhonmora. He dedicated himself to the service of his creator. He became the Lay Reader at the church between 2000 and 2007. It was little wonder that before he died, he was actively involved in the translation of the Holy Bible into Uhonmora language, serving as the Secretary General of the Translation Committee. The Vicar of the church, Venerable Ifeanyichukwu Ibezim, admitted during the funeral service that Pa Aidokhai would be sorely missed by the church and the Translation Committee.
