The Action Alliance (AA) in Lagos state says 20 aspirants have indicated interest to contest the forthcoming Local Government Chairmanship Election on its platform.
The state Chairman, Mr Shola Omolola, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos.
“So far we have about 20 people, who want to contest for Chairmanship; we are very hopeful of putting up a very good fight.
“The idea is that we are not going to contest in all the 57 local governments; we are going to contest in the ones that we feel we can win.
“Some of them are very strong in their local governments; we cannot rule them out.
“So there is the possibility of hijacking one or two local governments.
“We will be fully active during the local government elections.’’
He, however, said that the party would delay the announcement of the aspirants’ names until it got the permission from the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission( LASIEC)
“We cannot start to showcase them now until LASIEC has lifted the ban that we should start the election.’’
He noted that defectors to the other parties have returned to the party as they were not given level playing ground.
“Some of our loyalists who went to other parties thinking they will make fortunes they are coming back because there will be crisis of who to field for the chairmanship position.
“So the fall out can be (a) good thing for any party that is ready who can stand as a third force to leverage on any persons in any of the local governments.”
