The Youths for New Nigeria (YNN) and Ijebu-Jesa Student’s Union have warned that the growing incidence of drug abuse and misuse in the country could pose grave danger to lives and property.

They noted that if the situation is not urgently tackled before it gets out of hand, the country stands the risk of losing more of its citizens to deaths as well as the destruction of property from addicts, who could turn out to be violent towards other citizens.

The National Coordinator of YNN, Comrade Sunday Obanubi, noted that there must be collective efforts to echo the message against drug abuse as this is fast eroding the good and prosperous potentials of the country.

He maintained that with the current influx of harmful drugs into the country and those cultivated here including tramadol, cocaine, Indian hemp and other intake of fluids to get high, the group is sensitizing Nigerians to take action and support its campaign across the country.

“The group has been embarking on various awareness campaigns across the country to educate stakeholders on the need to act now and prevent irreparable damages illicit drug and substance abuse can cause to a nation and her people,” he added.

President of the Ijebu-Jesa National Student’s Union, Ogundipe Samuel, during the sensitisation walk against drug abuse and addiction in the area, said the menace of drug abuse has led to increased cases of mental illness.
