The wife of Adamawa Governor, Hajiya Maryam Jibrilla, has doled out cash to 2, 260 widows in the state to start up businesses.

Her media aide, Umar Shelleng, told newsmen on Thursday in Yola that each of the women was given N20, 000 to start a small business that would help sustain their families.

“The fund is meant to provide widows particularly those in rural areas of the state with a capital base with which to start small business so as to cater for the wellbeing of children left behind by their late bread winners”, he said.

He said the focus on widows was because of the vulnerable condition they often found themselves after the death of their husbands.

Shelleng disclosed that the governor’s wife had also facilitated the upgrade of the state orphanage to cater for the increasing number of orphans especially due to insurgency.

He called on individuals and organizations to also intervene in supporting widows and their families, so as to cushion their hardships.
