CHRISTIAN Ogar, who has just joined South Africa’s Belhar RFC, has charged Nigerian youths to pay more interest in rugby, describing the sport as another avenue, apart from football, to earn global reckoning.
Speaking to The Guardian before departing for South Africa on Tuesday, Ogar noted that his current deal with the South African outfit was due to hard work and the zeal to assist Nigeria win laurels in world rugby championships in future.
The former Cowrie RFC of Lagos winger, who emerged the most valuable player in last year’s South West Rugby League, also noted that Nigeria had enough talents with the potential to be superstars if they got enough encouragement from stakeholders in Sports.
He stated that as a grassroots player his major concern was to keep working on his skills to become successful in his career, adding that playing for a professional rugby team in South Africa was another avenue for him to gain global recognition.
He commended the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) and Cowrie RFC for giving him the needed exposure in rugby.
“I am delighted to be recognised by a South African club. Playing for Belhar RFC will give me the opportunity to compete in more championships and earn the experience to assist Nigeria win laurels in rugby. I have the target to also play for the best rugby clubs in the world because that is the only way I can compete among the best,” he said.
