A SEVENTY-YEAR-OLD destitute, who is identified simply as Iya Abbey or Mama Mile 12, is stranded at the Gbagada General Hospital. She was picked on December 28, 2015 by officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), where she was found roaming around Araromi Quarters in Ajelogo, Mile 12.
Presently at the casualty ward of the hospital, personnel of the Medical Social Service department had tried unsuccessfully to glean useful information from the patient on identifying her relations. All she has been saying is she wants to go home.
Sources at the hospital said there are plans to return her to Ajelogo as she has since December been occupying scarce hospital bed space and free feeding with no one coming forward to claim responsibility for the medical bills.
Eyewitnesses at the area where the woman was picked up said she was seen for some days walking about aimlessly as if she was stranded or lost her way before LASAMBUS officials picked her. She was unkept and dirty without talking to anyone in Ajelogo.
