Abia varsity VC cautions new students against cultism, others

VICE Chancellor, Abia State University, Uturu, Prof. Chibuzor Ogbuagu, has admonished newly admitted students of the institution for the 2014/2015 academic session to always remember the reason they were in school and put God first in everything they do.

   He gave the admonition at the recent matriculation ceremony to admit regular and part-time students into undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. A total of  6, 012 students were administered the matriculation oath. 

  Ogbuagu used the occasion of the 33rd matriculation ceremony to announce his exit from office as he told his audience the event was the last he would preside over as vice chancellor.

   He said: “You are among the very privileged persons who were offered admission into our great “God’s Own University” for the current academic session. This, indeed is an opportunity you cannot afford to waste or bungle. You ought to deeply value this privilege. The university will, therefore, not hesitate to expel any one whose credentials are discovered to be fake at any stage of your studentship,” he explained.

   He advised the new students to always dress decently throughout their stay on campus. “The university has a dress code that students should always abide by, alongside other rules and regulations of the school. Wearing of bizarre and obscene dresses would not be tolerated.

   “We also expect you to work hard in order to enhance the much cherished reputation of Abia State University, which it has acquired over the decades, through serious learning, good character and impressive performance.”

   He urged them to shun cultism in all possible shades, forms and guises, as the university has zero tolerance for all forms of misconduct, including examination malpractices.
