Some of the best players from across the country will from tomorrow begin their quest for honours in the maiden Oil and Gas Deepwater Safety Training tournament scheduled to tee off at the Port Harcourt Club 1928.
 
The tournament in the ‘Garden City’ will serve as a plank wood for all oil and gas executive to rub minds on safety measures in the industry.
 
It is sponsored by Tolman Allied Services/OPITO and other collaborators, including Air France and Greenwood Court Hotel and Suites.

The Captain of Port Harcourt Club Golf Section, Emmanuel Okene said the event will present an opportunity for teeming golfers to experience the hospitality of the club, adding that arrangements have been made to ensure the tournament is a huge success.

The tee off is 7.00 am while prizes will be won in all categories including raffle draw and return ticket to Europe.

The tournament will be preceded by an invitational safety seminar that will attract executive management workers in the oil industry.

Apart from the Deepwater safety tournament, the February monthly medal will similarly be held tomorrow. The Medal is an exciting opportunity for golfers to share their game ahead of the challenge to determine the nett champion of the month.
 
The new committee, headed by Okene, has since its inauguration in December last year, been organising tournaments to promote golf and strengthen existing ties.

Toward the end of last month, an interclub matchplay was organised between Air Assault and Port Harcourt. It was an enthralling derby between the two city neighbours that pitched the old generation golfers against the younger players.

After the exercise, Port Harcourt won by a slim margin of one point after carrying the day at 17-16. Air Assault claimed the doubles 8-5 while the host took the afternoon singles 11-8. Victor Ore broke the tie to emerge the singles champion after walking over Ngeri Abere.
