SDP Gubernatorial Candidate Denies Stepping Down

THE Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Taraba State, Chief David Sabo Kente, has debunked the rumours making the rounds that he has stepped down for the governorship candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Darius Dickson Ishaku.

He also frown at the “ negative actions” of the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for their purported endorsement of the PDP governorship candidate in the state without reaching out to candidates of opposition parties.

Briefing journalists Friday through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Matters, David Adekoya, the SDP governorship candidate described as “ untrue” the rumour that “ I have stepped down for the governorship candidate of the PDP.”

Wondering why some few “ overzealous and unpopular” candidates have bent on soiling the good reputations of the SDP candidates, the need for such persons to desist from spreading rumours capable of heralding crisis, he said, has become necessary.

 He said that he felt pained in that CAN has become a divisive mechanism in the state. 

 The Guardian learnt   that CAN in the state has been splinted into fashions, following her decision to align with the ruling PDP.

Such action, according to SDP “ is not for the interest of the peaceful co-existence of the good people of our dear state”

 SDP, however, gave kudos to the Catholic Society of Nigeria (CSO), Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and the Women and Youth Wing of CAN for disassociating themselves from such “ kangaroo endorsement.”

Noting that such decision by CAN “ is bias and lopsided” SDP in Taraba state believed that “ CAN was induced to hurriedly carried out such endorsement” without deeming it fit to engaged the candidates in dialogues.

Some top members of CAN told The Guardian they were not consulted by the CAN executives before arriving at such decision.

According to one of them “ as far as majority of us are concerned, CAN did not endorsed any governorship candidate and will never do that because of our relevance in the society.”

“ So please help us inform the public that CAN is not a political body that goes about campaigning for a particular candidate. All the candidates are ours. So we can not take such sensitive decision without inviting all the candidates for a discussion.”

“ Those few members of CAN that indulge in such acts”,according to him, “ are the hungry ones who are desperate to leak the boots of politicians.”
