The Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and to the African Union Commission (AUC) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in collaboration with the Sri Lankan citizens living and employed in Ethiopia will be organizing Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival 2023 in Ethiopia on Saturday, 15 April 2023 at the Addis Ababa Golf Club in Ethiopia.

The New Year festival will be attended by Ethiopian government officials, Foreign Ambassadors and Heads of International Organizations in Ethiopia, together with over 200 Sri Lankan citizens in Ethiopia.

The purpose of this national festival is to bring together all Sri Lankan citizens in Ethiopia to foster unity and harmony while portraying the national culture beyond the shores of the motherland. Accordingly, a large number of Sri Lankan experts mainly in the apparel industry, other local & foreign business entities and International & Multilateral Organizations in Ethiopia are enthusiastically engaged in organizing this unique national festival, a glamorous event.

During the upcoming Sri Lankan New Year festival the participants will take part in various entertaining games throughout the day while enjoying traditional Sri Lankan food items prepared by the Sri Lankan community. This festival will pave the way for enhancing partnerships with Sri Lankan friends in Ethiopia in view of building people to people contact while strengthening cultural and tourism links between Sri Lanka and Ethiopia, and beyond.

The festival will take place with the assistance of  Sri Lankan, foreign and  local companies in Ethiopia which include Jay Jay Textiles PLC – Bole Lemi Industry Zone, Pave Logistics and Trading PLC – Addis Ababa, Hirdaramani Knit – Hawassa Industrial Park, Indochine Apparel PLC – Hawassa Industrial Park, Ashton Apparel Manufacturing PLC – Bole Lemi Industrial Park, Isabella Socks Manufacturing PLC – Hawassa Industrial Park, Hela & Sumbiri Apparel PLC – Hawassa, Ethiopian Airlines, Hansa Flowers, Addis Ababa along with Sri Lankan well-wishers in Ethiopia.

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year 2023 Festival is organized as a part of public diplomatic initiatives of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Ethiopia.
