Aina becomes head, global banking standards

A past President of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Lawrence Olusegun Aina, has emerged pioneer chairman of the newly inaugurated Global Banking Education Standards Board (GBEStB).

The GBEStB was inaugurated on the sidelines of the World Conference of Banking Institutes hosted by the CIBN in Lagos recently.

By the development, Aina would lead the Global Council of GBEStB, comprising 26 founding-member institutes and bodies from across the world to drive standards of banking education across the globe for the next two years.

To ensure seamless activities in achieving the set goals, Aina would be assisted by three vice chairmen namely: Simon Thompson of the Chartered Banker Institute, Scotland; Carrie Leung of the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers; and Anthony Yaw Oppong of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, Ghana.

This was the outcome of the joint meeting of the global council and task force of GBEStB, coordinated by CIBN National Secretariat in Lagos. The development has been described as a milestone in pursuit of the institute’s vision and setting the pace for Nigeria and Africa.
