
The Governing Council of the newly established Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) in Ondo State has appointed Dr Samuel Akintunde as the Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, following the upgrade of the nearly 60 years College of Education to a university.
Before now, the citadel which has been running degree programmes since about 1982, is today the first and only specialised Federal University of Education in the country.
On October 20, 2023, the Federal Government announced the upgrade of the College to a University and subsequently appointed him as the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor of administration.
Akintunde has a B.Sc. (Ed) in Geography Education; he has a Master of Education (M.Ed.), and a PhD in Social Studies Education from the University of Ibadan.
Akintunde has been a lecturer in the Department of Social Studies, Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, since 1997, where he was the HOD for three years. He was Secretary, ex-officio, and Chairman of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) Adeyemi Chapter between 2007 and 2016.
He has attended several local and international workshops, conferences and seminars, where he presented remarkable papers with over 60 papers published in local and international books and journals.
