The ‎Association of Outsourcing Practitioners of Nigeria (AOPN) has decried the inability of government to embrace outsourcing and recognize its importance to the economic growth of the country.

The ‎Association of Outsourcing Practitioners of Nigeria (AOPN) has decried the inability of government to embrace outsourcing and recognize its importance to the economic growth of the country.

The association insists that the neglect of the sector by the government is a contributory factor to the crippled growth of the nation’s economy, which it said, has left the nation on its present state.

Speaking at an event organized by the AOPN in Lagos recently, the President, ‎AOPN, Austin Nweze, maintained that though there have been individual and cooperate efforts, those steps must be supported by government for outsourcing to be a catalyst for economic growth.

Nweze said: “We are still paying lip service to outsourcing in this country. If government begins to participate and invest in outsourcing, our economy will become better. By outsourcing 10 per cent of her activities and focusing more on governance, Nigerian government will provide good governance and be more efficient.

“If the government can outsource 10 per cent of some of their activities, they can create millions of jobs in Nigeria. Outsourcing has helped to catalyze economies such as India, Philippines, Mauritius, Croatia, Egypt, and Ghana amongst others.”

Nweze urged the government to embrace outsourcing and recognize its importance, noting that it is a gateway to replenish and boost the nation’s economy.

On his part, the Deputy President, AOPN, Obiora Madu, speaking to The Guardian, noted that AOPN has also used the event to recognize individuals who have made contribution to AOPN and to the outsourcing industry and equally admit new members who have shown interest in AOPN.

According to him, outsourcing has been identified as a catalyst for the economic growth of any nation and efforts should be channeled towards that direction. He maintained that Nigeria is low in outsourcing attractive index and this has posed a major challenge to the nation.

His words: “Outsourcing has become so fundamental that we cannot do without it. This is because it adds value to the economy but we are yet to realize this and face it as a country. Outsourcing as we speak is contributing 10 per cent to the GDP of India and has created 3.5 million jobs for youths in the outsourcing industry alone.

“Outsourcing has grown economies of countries because it became a government policy in those countries. When it becomes a government policy, everybody will face it. It’s still a challenge that people are yet to understand what outsourcing is and appreciate what it can do for Nigeria.”
