The Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) has graduated its first cohort of women and youth entrepreneurship development centre, empowering them with technical skills to drive change, innovation and progress in Nigeria’s evolving economic landscape.
The move, the chamber said, not only marked a significant milestone but also fostered entrepreneurial spirit among two critical groups of women and youths.
President and Council Chairman of NBCC, Ray Atelly, said the accomplishments of 108 participants within 12 weeks have shown remarkable dedication, resilience, and ingenuity in their entrepreneurial pursuits.
According to him, the graduates are living proof of the transformative power of education, mentorship, and hands-on experience. Trained in vocational skills such as arts and crafts, hydroponic farming, confectionaries, photography and videography, shoemaking, fashion design, and tailoring, Atelly added that the graduands have not only honed their entrepreneurial skills but have also developed the mindset required to adapt and thrive in an ever-changing global business environment.
“To our graduates, as you move forward, remember that you are not alone. The NBCC will continue to support you as you grow and scale your businesses. We are committed to ensuring that the knowledge, skills, and networks you have gained here will serve as a solid foundation for your future endeavours. You are now part of a larger entrepreneurial ecosystem, and we expect great things from each of you,” he said.
In her keynote address, Vice Chair and co-founder of Africa Sustainable Trade, Dr Ama Onyerinma, urged the graduates to be intentional in knowing who they are and their purpose of existence.
Stating that there are no refunds in life, Onyerinma, who is also the immediate past Chair of British Business Group, Nigeria, urged them to make good use of every opportunity that comes their way, adding that every relationship and opportunity was critical.
Also, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Dr Abike Dabiri-Erewa, while commending the NBCC, said the empowerment of women and young Nigerians was like rewriting the history of the country by building a generation of self-reliant people.
Represented by Dipo Odebowale, she urged them not to take the empowerment gesture for granted, adding, “You have been given the tools to take over the country through skills legitimately.”
