Delta to resolve NUT, ASUSS industrial disputes

Delta state has pledged to create a platform to resolve the disagreement between the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS).

The Delta State Head of Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko, who was responding to hordes of demands by the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) during a courtesy visit in Asaba, expressed optimism that a possible solution to the contending issues would be arrived at soon.

The HOS, while commending the union for the congratulatory visit, urged the leadership of TUC to keep the window of engagement open at all times, noting that with the platform being established, there were better days ahead and sued for more synergy.

On the issue of the ongoing housing units for the state workforce, he noted that a stakeholders’ forum would be evolved to share ideas on the possible mechanism for the allotment for the benefit of the entire civil servants in the state.

Earlier, the TUC led by Lawson Efenude, its vice chairman had stated that the visit was to congratulate the Head of Service for the successes recorded so far since his appointment.

“This visit, being the first by TUC since your appointment is to congratulate you for the successes so far. We are happy with the way you handled the issue of promotion arrears and that of geologists and hydrologists among other bold steps you have taken.

“We are made more formidable by this feat. Your spirit of consultation is so robust; we sell our ideas and we are happy with the way you handled them,” he noted.

Efenudu, listed critical areas that needed serious government attention to include issues of airport staff, roads, NUT/ASUSS face-off and that of the sack of over 70 per cent of Eternit company, which the state government has a stake.
