The Federal Ministry of Health has applauded the Medicaid Cancer Foundation for the training of health professionals in the management of cancer.

The Federal Ministry of Health has applauded the Medicaid Cancer Foundation for the training of health professionals in the management of cancer.

Presenting the award, the Minister of Health, represented by Dr. Adebimpe Adebiyi, said the effort and passion of the founder, Dr Shinkafi-Bagudu, leading the Medicaid team was truly commendable.

The Founder of MCF, Shinkafi-Bagudu, expressed appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Health for finding her foundation worthy of the award and promised to do more in the fight against cancer.

She added: “I want to thank the ministry of health for this recognition. The journey has been challenging but with the support of all the major stakeholders, we have been able to record noticeable landmarks. We now have more trained professionals that are giving advice and guidance on how to prevent and also manage cancer.

“Having cancer is not the end if one is armed with relevant information. As we always say, early testing is crucial because that is the only way it can be detected at the early stage. It is easier to manage when detected early. That is our message to Nigerians that they must know their status on time. Therefore, enlightenment is a factor in overcoming the spread of cancer.”

Medicaid Cancer Foundation (MCF) is a 13-year-old cancer organisation offering screening at various levels, vaccination, treatment support, raising funds for cancer patients and famous for the #WalkAwayCancer advocacy in Nigeria and beyond.

The foundation was also at the forefront of pushing and influencing government policies in the training of health care workers on cervical cancer, breast examination and other common cancers.
