A global peer-to-peer fintech platform, Paxful, has, through its literacy initiatives, equipped women in bridging the gender gap in financial inclusion.

A global peer-to-peer fintech platform, Paxful, has, through its literacy initiatives, equipped women in bridging the gender gap in financial inclusion.

With the move, the firm said the trained women can now make better decisions that will not only affect their livelihood but that of the economy.

Speaking during a summit on the ‘Women and the Future of Finance’ event in Ilorin, Vice President of Growth at Paxful, Jean Ng, said more women have long been disadvantaged when it comes to financial inclusion.

She said the programme was about helping women overcome traditional financial barriers and put the power back into their hands.

She stated that the firm’s mission was to bring financial inclusion to the unbanked and build a fair marketplace that gives equal opportunity.

According to her, knowing the positive economic outcomes of driving financial literacy, the fintech platform has committed to investing in initiatives that support financial inclusion and education.

Giving some statistics, she stated that in Africa, approximately 70 per cent of women are financially excluded.

Given a large number of female business owners across the continent, she said lack of access to financial education among women limits their ability to maximise their full potential.

Specifically, in Nigeria and Ghana, she said the number of female entrepreneurs exceeds that of men.

With over 100 women, who registered for the event to learn about global trends in the finance space and the technology needed to advance their skills and careers, one of the attendees said: “Women should be financially independent. I saw it as a privilege to build myself and improve my knowledge and business.”
