Foundation enjoins Nigerians to promote peace

SOCCER For Peace Foundation (SPF), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has enjoined all Nigerians and other citizens of the world to promote peace and to honour cessation of hostilities throughout the globe.

In his message to mark the International Day of Peace, which had ‘Partnerships for Peace: Dignity for All’ as theme, the Country Director, Soccer for Peace Foundation, Ozuem Onyebolise, said that partnership is rooted in mutual respect, dialogue, and the understanding that every citizens of the world are all members of one global family.

He said: “As we celebrate the International Day of Peace 2015 and commit ourselves to contributing to the achievement of the Post-2015 Agenda of Sustainable Development Goals, let us place partnership at the centre, committed to expanding our sphere of partnerships with other stakeholders and to being a partner that lives for the sake of others.

“SPF wholeheartedly affirms the ideal of dignity for all. According to our own core principles, each human being derives from our common origin, God, and each one of us has within the core of our being, a spark of the divine. Let us work to assure that each man and woman, each girl and boy, may live in a world where every good and natural aspiration can be fulfilled.”

According to the group, SPF and it’s ambassadors, the awardees is pleased with the 2015 theme of the International Day of Peace, adding that they are committed to doing their best to celebrate this day and working throughout the coming year to advance these most noble ideals, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

An award was presented to two eminent Nigerians for their call to service in ensuring peace around the world. The awardees are Rt. Hon. Frinday Ossai Osanebi, Deputy Speakers Delta State House of Assembly and Amb. Usinefe Edjekohwo.

Meanwhile, the Rotary Club of Hull Paragon, Dr Salinder Supri said the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service, has been one of the four objectives of Rotary.

Supri explained that Rotary has a number of major programmes that directly contribute to peace building whereby they sponsor Rotary World Scholars and Rotary University Chairs in Peace Studies at Rotary Centers for International Studies in Peace and Conflict Resolution, the Rotary Peace Plus Programme; and through Peace Rotarian Action Groups.

He explained further: “I believe that Rotary helps in the development of a world perspective, and though fellowship, we can transcend issues of race, tribal loyalties, and class and help bring forward the day when we all live together in peace. ”
