Govt mulls leadership devt scheme for civil service

The Federal government has concluded plans to embark on a Leadership Development Programme [LEAD-P] that will uplift public service’s performance.

The scheme, billed for next month, is expected to build the skills, knowledge and attributes of public servants in areas such as strategic thinking, problems solving and strategic communications and in addition, inculcate in participants key attributes of credibility, courage and teamwork.

Head of Service of the Federation, Danladi Kifasi stated this in a keynote address to the interactive session of the HOCSF with Federal civil servants in commemoration of the 2015 civil service week holding in Abuja.

He said: “The key policy that the office of the HOS is pursuing is to create a modern civil service that provides solid class service for sustainable national development, in this regard, my office has focused on developing the Leadership capacity of the public service, build the capacity of all civil servants, put in place an effective Performance Management System for the Public Service, Supporting better coordination of Reform Activities and reduce the cost of governance’’.

According to the HOS, government has begun the process of putting in place, a Structural Mandatory Assessment Based Training Programme [SMAT-P] which has been developed in partnership with reputable international organization and world class experts, stressing that the curriculum and training materials for the scheme have been fully developed in partnership with the Management Development institutes and local and international training experts even as the OHCSF is currently receiving nominations from Ministries, Departments and Agencies [MDAs].
