Group trains teachers on capacity building

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Awards has trained teachers from different public schools to empower them to carter and equip youths in meaningful activities.

Speaking at the two-day event which doubled as celebration of the leadership training and Award, the National Director of the International Awards, Ms Toyin Odu, disclosed that the region decided to spend time in strengthening and sharpening Award delivery skills through training of Award leaders.

Emphasizing that the commitment to undertake the training gives hope and help multitudes of young people taking up the Award as a programme of choice.

She stated that the foundation has been at forefront of a vision to reach more young people from diverse backgrounds and equip them as individuals on modules for success in life, inspire and guide young people and support them in their self-development and recognize their achievements.

Odu pointed out that the award provides the necessary framework that enable youths to learn life and social skills while developing the existing ones.

On her part, a board member and Trustee of the Award, Dr Doyin Abiola, urged teachers as award leaders to impact positively to the lives of the students and youths they manage and should be their brother’s keepers.

Also speaking, Oladele Kingsley, a teacher and recipient Lead forte Gate school said the training experience has been an exciting, adventurous and mind-blowing as such knowledge has sharpen him to meet present and life challenges.

The awards has four sections designed for youths to provide programme of personal development, such as Community Service, Skills, Physical Recreation, Adventurous journey and with an additional requirement Residential project.
